Rather than let your tension build until you can’t take it anymore, you need to find ways to cope with your anger in a healthy manner. Check out the 6 ways you can reign in your ire rather than let fly.
1. I am number 1. As contrary as it might seem, the Mayo Clinic says that when you need to address someone or a situation that is the source of your anger, start the conversation with “I,” not “You.” If you focus the attention on yourself first, the other person doesn’t feel like he is being attacked or criticized.
2. Count to 10. A piece of advice that has been around for a very long time is to take a moment and count to 10. Medical News Todayrecommends taking a few minutes to collect yourself and step back from the situation before you respond. Actually, counting to 10 before doing anything can help you calm down and keep you from giving in to explosive anger.
3. Run a few laps. If you think you’re going to lose it, Medical News Today says to go out for a run or do some other form of exercise that you enjoy. Exercise is a great way to release your pent-up anger without doing something you’ll regret.
